snow, ice, power outage...wait, what?

I thought we lived in the south!! We don't have snow! We don't have ice! Come on! Well we definitely do. We've had the last month several days of delayed and canceled school (not that we care). They are not prepared for the snow here of any kind and the roads get pretty bad quickly. They iced over and it wasn't good. The second storm we had was really an ice storm. It happened on a Friday. Levi had randomly woken up at 4am so I went to his room to check on him. I was standing over his crib around 4:30 when the power in the house started going weird and then it was out.
 
When Scott woke up to get ready for work I told him the power was out and it didn't look good outside. He was getting texts from co-workers asking if he was going to go to work. In the end he opted to not. We put our heat at night to 62, so it never heated up before the power went out and it was freezing in our house. Scott didn't want to leave us freezing with no power or car. He did bring his work computer home so we figured we could go to the library or Chic-fil-a and use their wifi. We left around 9am and it was NUTS. We were scraping our doors that were frozen shut to try and pry them open. Our neighbor came out and said to not turn left because a power line was down...awesome.

We left and it was our power line to our street taken out by a tree. The whole drive was interesting, seeing tons of trees that had fallen and branches that were hanging dangerously low. We got to the Chic-fil-a and it was closed. We just opted then to go to the Walmart across the street to walk around. Scott announced he'll just take PTO and not bother trying to work with no power. Levi had fallen asleep in the car so I stayed in there while Scott and Addilyn went into the store first. I watched people coming out with propane camp stoves, charcoal, and other survival things.

After our stint at Walmart we thought we'd try to go to the library. Well, it was definitely not open. In fact, there was no way to get to the library because a tree took a huge power line down. It was pretty sketchy while we were out so we went home. Our neighbor has oil heat and they invited us over. We spent the rest of the day warm in their house. Navi left to get pizza and on his way home around 4:30 he said some people were working on our power line. 6:30 and our power was back on. Woo! Other people were not so lucky and went a few days without power. Our internet didn't come on until later the next week.

Addilyn loves to play outside. Her relationship with Cabo is love/hate. She demands his presence, but while he's there, she is mad at everything he does. (like smell her, or he accidentally walks on her paper, or he is there...) Thankfully Addi does really well now being outside with out me. I can see her from the kitchen window and hear her when it's cracked. It's a nice alternative from having netflix on while I do dinner.

 The last of the Dash. Well, for this season. We usually sit in the box seats from Scott's work. But this game we had seats next to the grass. We opted to sit in the grass until we were sick of it and needed to sit in chairs. I really liked it except for I really had to pay attention for fly balls! Addilyn had a blast too. Levi was a piece of cake.

The rest of the game, and I mean the rest, we sat in our chairs on the 3rd base line. We stayed even through the fireworks. By the bottom of the 7th Addi was asking to go home. Poor girl. But I was too. We were all so tired. And we lost by 2. But up until those last runs it was a pretty good game.

The next morning we dropped Addi and Levi at our friends house. Scott and I went on a bike ride to Salem Lake. We ended up going 16.5 miles. Ouch. The start of the trail is only about 2 miles from our house. It's mostly shaded and a beautiful ride. We are excited to take Addi and Levi next time in our bike trailer.

Labor day morning

 Well, we made it to the pool for one last time. Labor Day. It's the day when they close, and we were there. It was nice because Scott could come for the first time too!

Addilyn has started a co-op playgroup/preschool thing. It's more like an organized playgroup. We are trying to do a short lesson about whatever (last week was on animals) and do activities/crafts that relate to it. The rest of the time is snack and play time. There's 5 of them total. Addi loved it so much she cried when she left and told me all about it in the car. My girl is getting so big!

On another note. I've been pretty lucky with both Addi and Levi when it comes to my diet and nursing. I've never had to lay off my chocolate or milk. Well. With Levi I vow to never ever eat beans. Oh heavens. I made these yummy black bean burgers Saturday and all day Sunday you would think we were pinching him all day. He was a mess. I felt so bad for him. I was exhausted from holding him and trying to console him all day. Oy. But those burgers were so good...

Time flies when you have kids. The 13th Levi will be 4 months. Whaaaat?! He is grabbing things, rolling over (whenever I put him on the floor which is like never. It's more out of safety from his sister), loves twirling and looking at the gadgets in his excer-saucer, and smiles all the time. And it's no longer only when he's gassy! He squeels. He loves watching his sister. And she loves making him smile and laugh. Usually the trick is for her to jump up and down. Gets him everytime.

This picture is for the Kirkham's. It's honey. And it's about to be saran wrapped for over night incubation. Scott has mersa in his elbow. I know, what is mersa? Why and how is it in his elbow? Right. When Scott gets sick it's never normal stuff. So he had been touching his elbow a lot and cause the skin to break out in bumps. We did the honey trick. (wink wink Paulette) Unfortunately Scott couldn't stand it during the night (we had put an ace bandage around it too) and came downstairs to take it off. But I am confident that it would have fixed these little bumps.

To add to the home remedy theme... I recently made laundry soap and orange/vinegar spray. I had to peel what seemed like a gazzillion oranges, which I hate peeling, and put the rines in an empty pickle jar, filled with white vinegar, and marinated for 2 weeks. Then I poured it in a spray bottle 50/50 to water. I no longer have stinky vinegar spray! As for the laundry soap. I love it. I only put 1 TB for an entire load. One large mason jar is approx 128 loads and cost about $0.013 for each load. The link is here for what I did.

Oh hey, it's June.

Adjusting to two kids is definitely an experience. Especially since I didn't let myself rest when Scott was here off work. I was a wee bit sore for the first week of being a solo mom with two. That meant our walks were waaaay shorter and I did a lot of sitting play time. I surprised myself with hardly watching any movies with Addilyn like I thought I would resort to. I also cooked dinner and managed naps really well. The first week with just me was also good because we got fed by awesome people in our ward Monday and Wednesday. And my friend Karen took Addilyn to the park on Tuesday with her daughter Addison. That was a wonderful day. I slept while they were gone. And when Addi came back, I fed her lunch and put her down for a 2 hour nap. I then once again, napped. Oh it was great. Addilyn needed a way to get rid of energy that I wasn't able to help do.

It seems I don't have the energy to do my blog lately...go figure! Tuesday I did my first grocery trip with the babes. It was a success. I do my grocery shopping once a month and then only go to Costco in between for milk and fresh stuff. So until next time, I'm free of grocery shopping :).

I used to complain about Levi sleeping so long at night...and I knew it was going to change. I only complained because I was very ready to feed him if you catch my drift. But now he is happily eating every 2 hours. For the most part I can go to sleep in between. However there have been a few nights where he and I stay up because of his gassyness. We are still trying to figure out what combination works best. I can't figure out if he sleeps hot or cold, if he sleeps better swaddled or not.

Since we don't have a pool or easy access to one, we do our own thing. I invited my neighbor Valarie over with her daughter and a boy she was babysitting on Friday. She got a picture of them all, these are only later in the day after her nap. I set up the slide, pool, and sprinkler. When the others were over, Addilyn was more interested in watching them and rocking Levi in his car seat where he was hanging out.

Scott dug a big hole under our deck. A few weeks before Levi was born, we had water coming up into our bath tub. Called the plumber, fixed that problem by digging a hole in front of the deck. But I told them to leave it so that Scott could finish fixing a few things. Well, we noticed water leaking into that hole from the ground. After further investigation, it was the water main that had sprung a leak. So we replaced the section under our deck. After talking to our neighbor, the people before had replaced the section in the yard. Why they didn't just do the whole thing? I don't know.

Addilyn was such a good helper. This is really a big part of what Scott did while he was off work to be home with me. He kept Addilyn the whole time and she worked and played in the yard.

We left the hospital around noon on Wednesday. Addilyn has been smitten with her brother and can't get enough of him. When she and Scott would come to the hospital, she immediately ran up to the secretary desk and would say "Sticker", requesting her big sister stickers.

Last night before putting Addilyn to sleep, she was holding Levi. He was getting hungry and rooting around to eat. So Addilyn had her face by his and he kept trying to latch onto her nose. Addi thought it was the funniest thing in the world. Of course Levi was hungry and probably wasn't thinking that, but it was too cute watching them. She is such a good sister.

Last night Addilyn got not just a bubble bath, but a super bubble bath. As you can see, she had a blast. Scott has been wearing her out during the day. He's been spending time outside doing yard work and things around the house that have been on his honey-do list. She has been a big helper with all of his chores. It's been a good distraction for her from her incoming molars...yuck. But as soon as she's inside, it's back to smooching her brother. I'm going to be so bummed when Scott goes back to work tomorrow. Ugh. They need paternity leave.

Levi got his first bath last night too. He didn't make a single noise. He just laid back and enjoyed the water. He did squeal when he was getting dried off. As soon as he was dressed he of course passed out.
